5 Best Hours distills the fundamental pieces of parenting into 5 hour-long sessions. Response to this program has been phenomenal. It is offered in a series of 5 weekly or monthly lessons, or as a 5 hour parenting workshop given in one day. First Teachers@home is offering this through churches, social service organizations and schools. 5 Best targets parents of elementary and middle school children, plus pre-schoolers.

These 5 hours of classes teach parents how to be their child’s best teacher. Parents have more skills than they think!

Topics include:

• Reading with your child: how to have them read to or with you everyday and why it matters hugely!
• Using ordinary activities to make a teaching moment- setting the table is a great way to learn!
• Math and Science that everyone can share –weather matters!
• Routines and organizing your day—your children need to have chores and help with cleaning! Yes they can pick up their clothes!
• Effective ways to discipline—get your child to do what you want without making yourself upset!

These classes are free for parents, and are offered either during the school day, in the evening or during the weekend. They are very interactive, and often engage families in spririted discussion.
